Frequently asked questions

Admissibility depends on jurisdiction and how the evidence is authenticated. Webshot produces a faithful rendering of the page, but for court use you should pair the screenshot with a sworn declaration or affidavit describing the capture process. Some jurisdictions also require WHOIS records, headers, or chain-of-custody documentation. Talk to your attorney about local rules.

The captured file's mtime reflects when it was created. For stronger time-stamping, you can hash the file with SHA-256 right after download and submit the hash + timestamp to a public timestamping service. Webshot itself logs every capture's request time on our server.

Not via the public form — it can't authenticate. For logged-in evidence (e.g. a Facebook DM or a private dashboard), the recommended path is a screen-recording with on-screen narration plus a separate Webshot of the public-facing pages.

Yes — any publicly accessible URL works. Twitter posts that render via the JavaScript SDK take 8-12 seconds to capture (we wait for content). Instagram pages and Facebook public posts also work as long as they're not gated by an age check or login wall.

Almost identical. Webshot uses a 1920×1080 viewport with a desktop Chrome user-agent. Pages that A/B-test based on cookies (which we don't carry) or geolocation (our server is in a US data center) may look different. For litigation-grade fidelity, capture multiple times and document any differences.
